Print Does Not Adhere to the Build Platform

Failure at the first layers can come from setup, material, orientation, support or process conditions. Do not assume that increasing exposure is the correct first response.

  • Check that the build platform surface is clean, correctly installed and free from obvious damage.
  • Confirm setup or calibration using the procedure for the exact printer model.
  • Compare bottom-layer and initial-layer settings with the validated profile for the resin and printer combination.

Print Separates or Partially Detaches

Layer Separation / Cracks

Layer separation can be related to insufficient layer bonding, excessive mechanical loading during release, geometry, material condition or abnormal printer motion.

  • Review orientation and large cross-sections that may create higher release loads.
  • Check whether cracks appear during printing, during support removal or only after post-curing.

Missing Features or Incomplete Areas

  • Confirm small features are represented in the sliced file and are realistic for the selected process and material.
  • Check for unsupported islands, weak local supports or geometry that traps liquid resin.

Dimensional or Fit Problems

Fit is influenced by the complete digital-to-physical workflow, not only by nominal printer resolution.

  • Use the correct resin profile and keep washing, complete drying and post-curing consistent between comparison parts.

Poor Surface Quality

  • Recheck file integrity and the printer profile before reslicing.
  • Inspect the vat, release film and resin for localized contamination or damage.
  • Note whether the artifact occurs at the same Z height or the same XY area on repeated prints.

Flexible / Elastomer Part Problems

Flexible and elastomer materials can deform under print, release and handling loads, so rigid-resin assumptions may not transfer directly.

  • Use the printer/material profile intended for the specific flexible or elastomer resin.
  • Review orientation, wall thickness, lattice geometry and support strategy for deformation during the build.
  • Confirm the material has been prepared according to its instructions and has not been contaminated by incompatible resin.
  • Use a washing process compatible with the material, then allow complete drying before UV post-curing.
  • Follow the material documentation for post-curing; do not copy a curing schedule from a different resin.
  • Evaluate whether distortion was introduced during support removal or handling rather than during printing itself.
Dental Model Printing Problems

Dental model accuracy and fit depend on the complete workflow from model preparation through printing and post-processing.

  • Confirm the material is appropriate for the intended dental printing application and the selected printer workflow.
  • Check model preparation, scale, base design, orientation and support placement.
  • Verify the correct printer profile and slicing configuration for the material.
  • Keep washing, complete drying, support removal and post-curing consistent when comparing accuracy.
  • For fit-related issues, document the exact region and whether the error is global or localized.

Resin Vat / Release Film Inspection

The vat and release film should be inspected when failures are localized, debris is present or release behavior changes.

  • Look for cured fragments, contamination, punctures, deep scratches, severe clouding, permanent deformation or leakage.
  • Do not start another build over cured debris that may damage the release film or interfere with the print.
  • Use the cleaning and film-replacement procedure for the exact printer/vat design.

  • Compare different sliced files to determine whether the missing area remains in the same physical screen location.

Z-Axis / Motion Related Symptoms

Failed homing, unexpected stops, binding, repeatable position errors, unusual noise or abnormal axis movement should be treated as possible equipment symptoms.

  • Record exactly when the motion problem occurs and any error message shown.
  • Capture a short video from a safe position if the symptom can be reproduced without risk.
  • Check only normal external setup items described in the model manual; do not force the axis by hand or open internal assemblies unless official service instructions explicitly require it.

Software / File / Slicing Problems

Post-Processing Problems

Washing, complete drying, support removal and UV post-curing are part of the finished-part process and can change surface condition, dimensions and mechanical behavior.

  • Washing: Use a cleaning method compatible with the resin and remove uncured surface resin without assuming one solvent or duration suits every material.
  • Complete drying: Allow the part to dry fully before UV post-curing so residual cleaning liquid does not interfere with the surface or final result.
  • Support removal: Remove supports using a method appropriate to the material and geometry; flexible parts and delicate features may need different handling from rigid models.
  • UV post-curing: Follow the resin documentation for post-curing conditions. Do not apply a fixed time copied from another material.
  • Surface condition: If a part remains tacky, cloudy, cracked or distorted, document the wash, drying and curing workflow together with the resin used.

Why is my resin print not sticking to the build platform?

There is no single universal cause. Check platform condition and setup, the correct printer/material profile, initial-layer settings, resin condition, environment, orientation, supports and vat/release-film condition. Use model-specific documentation for any required calibration or numeric setting.

Should I simply increase exposure when a print fails?

No. Increasing exposure without identifying the failure mode can introduce new dimensional or surface problems and may not address the actual cause. Compare the file, supports, vat condition, resin and validated profile first.

How often should the release film be replaced?
